American Football

  • The regulation field including end zones is 109.8 m L x 48.8 m W
  • The field of play from goal line to goal line is 91.4 m L with each end zone being 9.1 m L
  • Sidelines and end lines mark the full rectangle while hash marks are short 0.61 m lines marking each yard
  • Full-width yard lines are marked every 4.6 m across the field
  • Sideline hash marks are 0.61 m long and placed 0.15 m inside the sidelines while infield hash marks are 0.61 m long and positioned 20.96 m from the sidelines
  • Field goal posts are placed on the end line with a crossbar 3 m high, uprights 5.6 m apart and extending at least 10.7 m above the crossbar

Archery

  • Indoor Archery
    • Recreational shooting distance is 15 metres.
    • Standard competition distance is 18 metres as per Archery GB and World Archery.
    • Extended distance where space allows is 25 metres or more.
    • A standard sports hall of around 33 metres by 18 metres is typically suitable.
    • Lane width per archer is ideally 1.2 metres, with a minimum of 0.8 metres acceptable.
  • Outdoor Archery
    • If there is no backstop net, the field should be at least 113.75 metres long and 37.62 metres wide.
    • If a backstop net is used, the minimum size is at least 40 metres long and 20 metres wide.
    • The overshoot area must be at least 100.1 metres in total length for targets up to 54.5 metres away. For targets beyond 54.5 metres, an additional 50 metres beyond the target is required.
    • Side safety areas should be 18.2 metres on each side.

 

Badminton

  • Full-size doubles court is 13.41 metres long by 6.10 metres wide
  • Singles court uses the same length but is 5.18 metres wide
  • All court lines should be 4 centimetres wide in a contrasting colour
  • The short service line is 1.98 metres from the net
  • The doubles long service line is 0.76 metres in from the baseline
  • Mini badminton courts are typically 11 metres long by 5.18 metres wide with proportionally adjusted service lines

 

Basketball

  • Standard international (FIBA) court size is 28 metres long by 15 metres wide
  • UK community and club courts are usually 26 to 28 metres long and 14 to 15 metres wide
  • All court lines are 5 centimetres wide
  • The key or free-throw lane is 4.9 metres wide
  • The free-throw line is 5.8 metres from the inside edge of the baseline
  • The centre circle has a radius of 1.8 metres
  • The three-point line has a radius of 6.75 metres from the basket with a minimum of 6.6 metres from the sidelines

 

Boccia

  • Court size is 12.5 m long by 6 m wide
  • The playing surface should be flat, smooth, and usually indoors
  • Boundary, throwing line, and V line are marked with tape between 4 and 7 cm wide
  • The court is divided into six throwing boxes using internal lines around 2 to 2.6 cm wide
  • The central cross target area is 35 cm by 35 cm marked with narrow tape
  • Lines should be in a clear, contrasting colour such as red, black, blue or green

 

Bowls

  • Lawn bowls green is usually square or rectangular, measuring between 31 m and 40 m on each side
  • The green is surrounded by a ditch 200 to 380 mm wide and 50 to 200 mm deep, with a bank at least 230 mm high outside the ditch
  • The green is divided into rinks that are 4.3 m to 5.8 m wide for outdoor play, while indoor rink widths are typically 4.6 m to 5.8 m
  • Short mat bowls uses a mat that is 12.2 m to 13.7 m long and 1.83 m wide

 

Cricket

  • Standard pitch length between wickets is 20.12 m and width is 3.05 m
  • The bowling crease is 2.64 m long and centred on the stumps
  • The popping crease is 1.22 m in front of the bowling crease and extends at least 1.83 m to each side of the stumps
  • Return creases are at right angles to the popping crease, positioned 1.32 m from the middle stump and extend at least 2.44 m backwards
  • Non-turf artificial pitches are usually 17.68 m long and 1.83 m wide

 

Curling

  • Ideal sheet size is 45.72 m long by 4.75 m wide with a minimum size of 44.5 m long by 4.42 m wide
  • The playing area excluding over-run is 42.07 m long with an extra 1.83 m behind each hack
  • Inside edge of side lines is a maximum of 5 m wide
  • The tee line is centred 17.37 m from the sheet’s midpoint
  • The back line is 1.829 m behind the tee line
  • The hog line inside edge is 6.4 m from the tee line centre
  • The centre line runs between tee lines and extends 3.66 m beyond each tee
  • Hack line markers are 0.457 m long placed parallel to the tee lines on the centre line
  • Courtesy lines are 0.152 m long and positioned 1.22 m outside each hog line
  • Circles around each tee have radii of 1.829 m, 1.219 m, 0.610 m and 0.152 m

 

Dodgeball

  • Standard adult court is 17 m L x 8 m W
  • The centre line divides the court evenly with a neutral zone 1.5 m wide, 0.75 m on each side of the centre
  • The ball return line or attack line is 3 m from each back line or from the centre line and is used to return balls or re-enter players
  • A player return area or out box is marked 1 m L x 4 m W outside each half, positioned 1 to 2 m from the back boundary
  • There should be at least 1 m clearance from walls or obstacles around the court
  • Junior under 11 dodgeball typically uses a badminton court of approximately 13.4 m L x 6 m W

 

Football

  • Under 6 and under 7 to 8 five-a-side pitches range from 22.9 to 32 m L x 13.7 to 22.9 m W
  • Under 9 and under 10 six or seven-a-side pitches range from 50.3 to 59.4 m L x 32 to 41.1 m W
  • Under 11 and under 12 eight to eleven-a-side pitches range from 64 to 73.2 m L x 41.1 to 50.3 m W
  • Under 13 and under 14 eleven-a-side pitches use full-size ranges of 91.4 to 118.9 m L x 45.7 to 91.4 m W
  • Under 15 and above eleven-a-side pitches range from 91.4 to 109.7 m L x 50.3 to 73.2 m W
  • The FIFA standard senior pitch is 105 m L x 68 m W within an allowed range of 100 to 110 m L x 64 to 73 m W

 

Goalball

  • Standard court size is 18 m L x 9 m W
  • The court is divided into six zones each 3 m long along the length
  • Team areas known as orientation and landing zones are each 6 m L x 9 m W
  • The neutral zone in the centre is 6 m L x 9 m W and is split by the centre line
  • All court lines are 5 cm wide and tactile using tape over string
  • Goals span the full 9 m width and are 1.3 m high

 

Handball

  • Standard court size is 40 m L x 20 m W
  • Court boundary lines including sidelines are 5 cm wide with the goal line being 8 cm wide
  • The goal area or D-zone is a 6 m radius from the goal posts
  • The penalty spot or 7 m line is 7 m from the goal line
  • The free-throw line is a 9 m radius arc outside the goal area
  • Goals measure 3 m W x 2 m H and extend 2 m back from the goal line

 

Hockey

  • Standard field hockey pitch is 91.4 m L x 55 m W
  • There should be at least 2 m of run-off at the sidelines and 3 m at the backlines
  • A centre line divides the pitch into equal halves
  • Two 23 m lines are each positioned 22.9 m from the backlines
  • The shooting circle consists of a straight line 3.66 m long parallel to the backline, set 14.63 m into the pitch, joined by two 14.63 m quadrant arcs
  • The penalty spot is a 0.15 m diameter mark centred 6.4 m from the goal line
  • Goals measure 3.66 m W x 2.14 m H, with a minimum depth of 1.2 m at ground level and 0.9 m at crossbar height

 

Lacrosse

  • Standard men’s field size is 100.6 m L x 54.9 m W
  • Women’s full field typically ranges from 100.6 m to 128 m L and 54.9 m to 64 m W
  • Goal posts measure 1.83 m W x 1.83 m H with a depth of 2.13 m and are positioned on the goal line
  • The crease around each goal is a circle with a radius of 2.75 m
  • Goals are spaced 73.2 m apart
  • Restraining lines or goal-area lines are 18 m from the goal lines and run sideline to sideline
  • Wing lines are 9.14 m from each sideline and extend 12.5 m either side of the centre line
  • The centre line runs across the middle and is marked with a heavier line width
  • Most boundary and restraining lines are 5 cm wide, the centre line is 10 cm wide, and goal posts and crossbars are 5.1 cm thick

 

Netball

  • Regulation court size is 30.5 m L x 15.25 m W
  • The court is divided into three equal thirds each 10.17 m L
  • The centre circle has a diameter of 0.9 m
  • Goal circles are semi-circles with a 4.9 m radius centred on each goal line
  • All lines are 5 cm wide
  • Goal posts are 3.05 m high and positioned at the midpoint of each goal line

 

Padel

  • Standard court size is 20 m L x 10 m W
  • Service lines are marked 3 m from each back wall with a centre service line crossing them by 0.10 m
  • All court lines are 5 cm wide
  • The net is 10 m long, 0.88 m high at the centre and 0.92 m at the ends, supported by posts up to 1.05 m high
  • Enclosure walls around the ends and sides must be 4 m high with the first 3 m solid or glass and the top 1 m metal mesh
  • Minimum clearance height above the court is 6 m with 8 m recommended for new facilities

 

Pickleball

  • Official court size is 13.41 m L x 6.10 m W
  • The net runs across the full width and is 0.91 m high at the sidelines and 0.86 m high at the centre
  • The non-volley zone or kitchen extends 2.13 m on each side of the net
  • Each half-court has two service courts each measuring 4.57 m L x 3.05 m W
  • All court lines are 5 cm wide
  • The minimum overall playing area should be about 18.29 m L x 9.14 m W

 

Rounders

  • The batting square is 2 m x 2 m and positioned 7.5 m from the bowling square which is 2.5 m x 2.5 m
  • The distance from the batting square to first post is 9 m, from first to second post is 9 m, from second to third post is 9 m, and from third to fourth post is 5 m
  • Four posts form the running circuit with these distances
  • The waiting batters line is about 10 m behind the batting square and extends 15 m to each side from its front-right corner
  • Line widths are recommended between 2.5 cm and 5 cm

 

Rugby

  • The field of play from try-line to try-line is typically 100 m L with an acceptable range between 94 and 100 m L, and a width of 68 to 70 m W
  • In-goal areas extend 6 to 22 m beyond each try-line making the total pitch length between 106 and 144 m
  • Touchlines run the full length of the field and dead-ball lines are parallel to the try-lines extending behind the in-goal areas
  • Try-lines run the full width of 68 to 70 m at each end of the field
  • The halfway line divides the field of play and is marked across the full width at the midpoint
  • The centre cross or kick-off spot on the halfway line is marked with a short solid line approximately 0.5 m long

  • Bases measure 38.1 cm x 38.1 cm with a standard height between 7.62 cm and 12.7 cm, with first base being a double base measuring 76.2 cm L x 38.1 cm W
  • The batter’s box measures 2.13 m L x 0.91 m W and is placed on either side of home plate
  • The pitching plate is 61 cm L x 15 cm W
  • Recommended line widths are between 2.5 cm and 5 cm

 

Squash

  • The internal court dimensions are 9.75 m L x 6.4 m W with a diagonal measurement of 11.663 m
  • The total floor area is 62.4 square metres
  • Red lines marking the court should be 50 mm wide and painted in a contrasting colour, preferably poppy red
  • The finished floor must be level within ±10 mm across the length, width, and diagonals
  • Joints between floorboards must be flush within 0.25 mm with open joints not exceeding 2 mm wide

 

Racketball

  • The court internal size is 9.75 m L x 6.4 m W
  • The front wall ceiling must be at least 6.1 m high and the back wall at least 3.66 m high
  • The short line is 6.1 m from the front wall
  • The service line is 4.57 m from the front wall
  • The receiving line is 7.62 m from the front wall
  • Service box lines are 0.46 m and 0.914 m from the side walls

 

Stoolball

  • The two wickets are set opposite each other 14.6 m apart and aligned north to south where possible
  • Each wicket board is 0.305 m square mounted on a stake with the top 1.4 m above ground and the bottom 0.6 m of the stake coloured to indicate the no-ball area
  • The bowling crease is 9.15 m in front of each wicket and is 0.915 m long with 0.305 m returns at each end
  • Boundaries should be about 40 m from the centre of the pitch

 

Tchoukball

  • Court size is typically 26 to 29 m L x 15 to 17 m W for international standard
  • The court is divided by a centre line across the width at the midpoint
  • Forbidden zones are semicircles with a 3 m radius drawn in front of each back line
  • Lines must be clearly visible and at least 5 cm wide
  • A 1 m clearance around the court is mandatory with 2 m recommended
  • Rebound frames are placed on the back lines and each frame measures 1 m x 1 m
  • The indoor beach variant uses a court size of 21 m L x 12 m W or between 21 to 23 m L x 11 to 13 m W

 

Tennis

  • Standard court size is 23.77 m L x 10.97 m W for doubles and 23.77 m L x 8.23 m W for singles
  • Singles sidelines are 8.23 m apart with doubles sidelines extending 1.37 m each side for a total of 10.97 m
  • The service line is 6.4 m from the net
  • The distance from the baseline to the net is 11.89 m
  • The centre service line divides the court widthwise between service boxes each measuring approximately 6.4 m L x 4.115 m W
  • The net stretches the full court width measuring 12.8 m for doubles and 9.41 m for singles

Volleyball

  • Standard indoor court is 18 m L x 9 m W

  • The indoor net is centred with a top height of 2.43 m for men and 2.24 m for women
  • All lines are 5 cm wide
  • The attack line indoors is 3 m from the net on each side
  • The minimum clearance or free zone around an indoor court is 2 m with at least 1 m behind baselines, though 3 to 5 m is recommended
  • The free zone around a beach volleyball court is at least 3 m
  • Minimum ceiling or clearance height is 7 m for indoor, 12.5 m for international events, and 7 m for beach
