Your Guide to Volleyball

Volleyball is a dynamic and exciting team sport enjoyed by players of all ages and skill levels around the world. Whether you're looking to introduce volleyball to students, set up a club team, or simply learn the basics, this guide has you covered.

Basic Rules of Volleyball

1. Team Structure: Each team has six players on the court at a time.
2. Objective: Teams aim to score points by grounding the ball on the opposing team’s court or forcing errors.
3. Scoring: Matches are typically played in sets. The first team to reach 25 points (with a 2-point lead) wins the set, and matches are best-of-five sets.
4. Ball Contact: Players are allowed three consecutive touches of the ball to return it to the opponent's side.
5. Rotation: Teams rotate positions clockwise when they win the serve.
6. Serving: The server must hit the ball over the net and into the opposing court. If the serve is unsuccessful (into the net or out of bounds), the point goes to the other team.
7. Net Play: Players must not touch the net during play or step completely over the centreline.
