Introducing Goalball: The Inclusive Sport Every School Should Know About

Goalball is a fast-growing inclusive team sport designed for players with visual impairments, but it is enjoyed by everyone who plays.
Created after World War II to support the rehabilitation of visually impaired veterans, Goalball has become an internationally recognised Paralympic sport that promotes teamwork, communication, and equality in PE.

Bishop Sports & Leisure is proud to work with Goalball UK to make it easier for schools to introduce this exciting and accessible sport through official, age-appropriate equipment and guidance.

What is Goalball and How is it Played?

Goalball is played indoors between two teams of three players. Each player wears a blindfold to ensure a level playing field and uses sound to track the ball, which contains small bells.
The aim is to roll the ball into the opponent’s goal while the defending team blocks it using their bodies.

This simple but powerful setup encourages trust, listening, and communication among pupils. It provides a fun and inclusive way for students to experience teamwork from a completely new perspective.

Goalball is not just an activity; it is a meaningful tool for inclusion and personal development in PE lessons.

  • Helps pupils develop listening, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Quick and easy to set up in any indoor space.
  • Aligns well with curriculum goals for teamwork, diversity, and inclusion.
