London Parade for Play: Celebrating the Power of Play in the Capital

On Wednesday 11 June 2025, children, families, schools and play advocates will take to the streets for the London Parade for Play – a colourful celebration marking the International Day of Play. Taking place in Parliament Square, the parade promises music, chants, costumes, banners and, most importantly, a loud and joyful message: play matters.

The parade is organised by London Play, a charity dedicated to making sure all children in the capital have the freedom and space to play. You can find out more about the event and how to get involved here, or download the official flyer here.

Why Play Matters

Play is more than just fun – it's essential for physical development, emotional wellbeing, social skills and problem-solving. The London Parade for Play helps raise awareness of the vital role that play has in healthy childhoods, especially at a time when opportunities to play freely are under increasing pressure.

If you work in a school, club or early years setting, encouraging regular, active play can have a big impact on behaviour, confidence and classroom engagement.

To help support play in schools, we stock a wide range of active play equipment, early years resources and inclusive sports sets.

Ideas for Schools: Celebrate Play with Your Pupils

Even if you're not attending the parade, there are plenty of ways schools can get involved:

  • Host your own mini play parade on the school grounds
  • Design posters or banners around the theme "Play is a right"
  • Create a 'playtime challenge' with fun activities at break or lunchtime
  • Discuss the importance of play during PSHE or circle time

If you're planning a themed day or week around play, our sports day collection is full of exciting equipment to make it memorable.

Make Play Part of Every Day

We believe play should be a key part of every school day – not just special events. From lunchtime equipment to imaginative role play kits, there are lots of ways to make play a priority.

This June, we’re proud to shine a light on the power of play. Whether you're marching in London or celebrating in your own playground, let’s give children the time and space they deserve.
