What is Youth Quidditch: a non-contact, mixed-ability invasion game adapted for schools, played with 2 or 3 chasers passing quaffles to score through hoops, keepers protecting hoops, beaters using bludgers to tag players who must reset, and a snitch belt for end-game excitement
Simple rules to start: 3 passes before a shot, no contact, tagged players return to their end line, rotate roles so everyone tries chaser, beater, keeper and snitch runner
How to introduce it: begin with passing and shooting drills into 1 hoop, add a second hoop for angles, then add bludger tagging and finally the snitch chase to finish games
Teaching tips: use clear zones, short games of 3 to 5 minutes, frequent role rotation, visible bibs for positions, and simple signals for tags and resets
Why teach it: encourages communication, strategy and fair play, includes pupils who are less engaged by traditional sports, and supports leadership through rotating roles
