Active Easter: Creative Ways to Keep Kids Moving Over the Holidays
The Easter holidays are here, and while chocolate eggs and cosy days are a big part of the break, it’s also important to keep children active and engaged. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or holiday club organiser, finding ways to encourage movement during the school break can be a challenge.
We’ve put together a fun and practical list of Easter-themed games, activities and equipment ideas to help children stay energised, healthy and happy during the break.
Easter-Themed Games for Holiday Clubs or Home
These simple activities are easy to organise, require minimal equipment, and are great for all ages:
1. Easter Egg Relay Race
Split children into teams. Each player must balance a plastic egg on a spoon and complete a short course before handing it over to the next person.
2. Bunny Hop Obstacle Course
Set up a course using cones, hurdles or hoops. Children must hop like bunnies from one end to the other, navigating the obstacles along the way.
3. Easter Treasure Hunt with Movement Tasks
Hide clues or eggs around your space. To collect each one, children must first complete a physical challenge, such as a mini dance move.
4. Chick Tag
Choose one or two children to be the "foxes". The rest are "chicks" who must avoid being caught. When caught, they freeze until another chick unfreezes them.
Quick-Set Activity Zones
If you’re working with a group or running a holiday club, consider creating themed activity zones:
-
- Jump & Bounce Zone: Use agility ladders and skipping ropes to promote cardio and coordination.
- Throw & Catch Zone: Use bean bags and soft balls to develop hand-eye coordination.
- Parachute Games: Great for teamwork, colour recognition and laughter.
